Projects in Indonesia: What Is Known?
Indonesia is emerging as a crucial destination for the implementation of uST technology. Unitsky Nusantara Technologies, the company promoting this innovation in the region, is currently negotiating several significant projects that could transform local transport infrastructure.
A Popular Tourist Destination
One of the key initiatives in the region involves two string transport lines, measuring 14 and 24 km, designed to connect the tourist area of Puncak with the Gadog district and Sentul City. Both routes are situated in Bogor, a mountainous region in West Java province, just 70 km south of Jakarta.
The name Puncak translates to “peak” or “mountain pass,” aptly reflecting its picturesque location nestled between two extinct volcanoes and surrounded by lush tea plantations. In recent years, Puncak has evolved into a hub for ecotourism and upscale residential development, forming a cohesive tourist zone in West Java.
This popular getaway for Jakarta residents and others nearby has long been plagued by severe traffic congestion. Roads with limited capacity struggle to accommodate the influx of vehicles, particularly on weekends when thousands flock to enjoy the fresh mountain air and stunning landscapes.
The situation has worsened with the rise in private car ownership, leading to increased traffic jams and higher carbon emissions. In response, local authorities are exploring string transport as an environmentally friendly and effective solution to alleviate congestion.
Sustainable Connections with the Suburbs
String transport is ideally suited for integration with existing transport networks, such as light rail (LRT), metro systems, and other modes, providing seamless connections to satellite cities.

A feeder line project in the Depok area, located near Jakarta, aims to enhance transport accessibility between the Harjamukti LRT station and the densely populated Mekarsari-Cileungsi region. This area is home to many commuters who travel to Jakarta daily.
The primary objective of this string transport line is to offer passengers a comfortable and efficient route to the high-speed train station, bypassing traffic jams and significantly reducing travel time.
In recent years, the Mekarsari-Cileungsi area and the corridor along Jalan Transyogi, east of the Harjamukti LRT station, have experienced rapid growth. This transformation into a modern and desirable residential area is attracting an increasing number of new residents from across the Jabodetabek agglomeration (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Bekasi).
With daily passenger traffic between this region and the capital on the rise, the demand for reliable, fast, and sustainable transport links to major urban infrastructure hubs has become particularly pressing. Ensuring efficient and safe transportation is thus a critical factor in the development of this area.
Enhancing Transport Infrastructure
uST technology has the potential to significantly improve the traffic situation in the city of Bandar Lampung, which currently suffers from an oversaturation of private vehicles that overshadow public transport options.
The sustainability of the local transport system is rated as low. One study showed that the multi-criteria sustainability index for Bandar Lampung’s transport infrastructure stands at 44.74, categorized as “less sustainable.” The new master plan for the city’s development seeks to alleviate stress on the road network, with uST solutions positioned as a viable component of this strategy.
The Importance of String Technologies in Indonesia
The aforementioned projects represent just a fraction of the work underway in Indonesia. The country’s unique terrain poses significant challenges for ground transportation development but simultaneously presents great opportunities for overhead transport systems. As a result, string transportation continues to garner substantial interest from both government authorities and the business community.
