Zero Emissions: How Will uST Solutions Help to Accelerate the Transition to Eco-Friendly Transport?
Europe has toughened exhaust emission standards for new vehicles, that has further driven up the demand for electric cars. The growth rate of sales of electric vehicles is steadily increasing, but it is too early to speak about a global distribution. One of the reasons is the problem of expanding the infrastructure of charging stations. At the same time, the solutions by UST Inc. can be implemented without regard to these difficulties.
Situation on the electric vehicle market
According to the latest survey conducted by the audit and consulting company Ernst & Young, for the first time in history, more than 50 % of car owners worldwide consider an electric or hybrid model as the next vehicle. Automakers can no longer ignore the increased consumer interest in electric vehicles. Corporations also take into account the global concern about the increase in exhaust gases and strict environmental standards for new vehicles.
The finalists of the world contests for the title of the car of the year in 2022 were mainly electric cars. According to Deloitte estimates, by 2030 the share of electric vehicles in sales of new cars will be 48 % in China, 27 % in the USA, 42 % in Europe. Automakers set themselves short-term tasks related to the transition to the production of battery-powered cars. Those who underestimated the growth in demand for electric cars are now trying to make up for lost time: automakers are reviewing the programs of transition to electric cars.
Difficulties of a total transition to electric cars
Analysts have calculated that by 2030, about 120 million electric cars will appear on the roads. But the pace of sales growth may slow down due to the difficulties faced by the industry. Surveys show that buyers postpone the purchase of electric cars precisely because of the current problems related to the operation and maintenance of such cars.
Uneven allocation of charging stations, their shortage, software malfunction – these are the issues that should be urgently addressed.
The average cruising range of an electric car battery is 200-400 km. One charge is quite sufficient to solve everyday tasks. However, during intercity and cross-border trips, long-distance travels, there is a high risk of turning up with an empty battery far away from charging stations. The existing infrastructure needs to be upgraded and expanded, as the need for charging points is constantly increasing. Meanwhile, the process of deploying charging stations is complicated, it requires long approvals, time, and funds.
uST Technology: even more mobility
The problems faced by manufacturers and buyers of electric vehicles do not relate to the solutions by UST Inc. Moreover, uST Transport is more economical: it runs on electric power, like electric cars, but uPods are characterized by high efficiency factor.
If the energy consumption parameter of uPod is compared to that of an electric car with pneumatic tires, it is 5-7 times lower.
Eco-friendly and safe electric rail vehicles move at the second level – above the ground. This excludes traffic jams and congestion, during which a great emission of exhaust gases from cars with internal combustion engines appears. Other categories of emissions are also harmful to the environment, for example, tire and brake wear products. Heavy batteries installed in electric cars increase the mass of cars and impose additional load on the wheels. Researches show that on average emissions of solid particles from tires exceed exhaust gas emissions by 1,850 times.
Even when used in areas with high traffic intensity, uST Transport & Infrastructure Complexes do not damage the ecosystem. Moreover, they can be built in regions with the most stringent environmental requirements. And the high energy efficiency of uST solutions is achieved due to the rolling of uPods on steel rails, the absence of a solid roadway and a parasitic airfoil effect.
While automakers are working on more economical and environmentally friendly models of electric vehicles, the deadline defined for the transition to zero emissions is approaching. The process can be accelerated by implementing uST solutions. Electric vehicles on steel wheels can become an efficient solution for the arrangement of urban passenger transportation. When traveling around the city and beyond, it is possible to save time if a second-level route is used instead of an electric car. In addition, there is no need to worry about an empty battery and the absence of a charging station.
