UST Inc. Participates in the International Forum “Arctic: Today and the Future”
The XIV International Forum “Arctic: Today and the Future” took place in St. Petersburg, where Unitsky String Technologies Inc. showcased solutions aimed at enhancing transportation accessibility in the Arctic territories.
This annual forum brings together representatives from the government, business community, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations to collaboratively identify key areas for the development of the Arctic zone in Russia and to formulate solutions to urgent regional issues. This year, the event attracted over 2,000 participants. The Forum was supplemented by an extensive exhibition exposition.
The business program included two plenary sessions and more than 50 discussion platforms focusing on essential aspects of the economy, social policy, transportation, infrastructure, science and technology, ecology, international cooperation, and comprehensive security in the Arctic region. The main topic was “Human-Centered Arctic as a Priority,” emphasizing sustainable development where the realization of human needs drives economic growth.
A representative from UST Inc. delivered the report during the panel discussion titled “Mobility of the North: Increasing Transportation Accessibility for the Population in the Arctic.” Alexander Krivitsky, Head of the Systems Analysis and Engineering Calculations Department, discussed how to establish cargo and passenger transportation using a land-based alternative to the Northern Sea Route based on the uST technologies.
The advantages of the proposed solution in the harsh climatic conditions of the Arctic were highlighted. The design of the string rail overpass allows it to be constructed along the shortest route through mountains, water barriers, and difficult terrains without the need for complex and costly engineering structures such as excavations, trestles, and embankments. With high-strength foundations, the uST overpass is resilient to river overflows and land inundation, while extreme snowdrifts are effectively eliminated.
UST Inc.’s proposed solution aims to preserve the unique nature of the region: ecosystems and animal migration paths are maintained beneath the elevated track, and electric vehicles on steel wheels produce no exhaust emissions or tire wear products.
The uST technology is capable of overcoming the severe climatic conditions of the Arctic, providing accessible, reliable, and eco-friendly high-speed transportation. The solution presented by UST Inc. will enhance the transportation accessibility in the area, improve the quality of life for residents, unlock the potential of sparsely populated and remote regions, and contribute to the establishment of new settlements with job opportunities. All of this will positively impact not only the Arctic zone’s economy but also that of the entire country.
