What Makes the Mounted uCont the Optimal uST Solution for Transporting Cargo Containers?
Customer requests and global project experience guide the direction of Unitsky String Technologies Inc. Currently, uST passenger solutions are the most popular, but cargo systems, including uCont, are also being promoted. uCont can be mounted or suspended, with the mounted version now being actively marketed. Why has the company decided to focus specifically on this version?
Container transportation is one area where uST Transport & Infrastructure Solutions prove highly effective. Autonomous mounted or suspended uConts, capable of transporting shipping containers, can travel along string rail overpasses at speeds of up to 100 km/h, handling up to 100 million tons of cargo annually.
The suspended uCont is more economical and simpler to implement, which is why it was designed and produced first. However, after entering the market and working with port clients, the focus shifted.
It turned out that mounted uConts were in much higher demand. Unlike suspended uPods, their integration into port infrastructure doesn’t require additional equipment. For transferring containers from one platform to another, mounted uPods can rely on standard systems already present in every port.
The suspended uCont, although more economical on its own, requires port infrastructure upgrades. A standard crane cannot lift a container from a cargo cart to a suspended uCont under the rail. Doing so would require reconstructing the port’s transportation hub, leading to additional costs for clients. Unitsky String Technologies Inc. recognizes this and focuses on developing routes for the mounted uCont as a more cost-effective option that doesn’t require new equipment or reconstruction work.
The mounted uCont features two traction modules moving in opposite directions, linked by a virtual coupling with cargo support platforms. It operates automatically, with any sensor malfunctions immediately reported to the dispatcher. uCont can transport 20- and 40-foot cargo containers at speeds up to 100 km/h.
The suspended uConts will also enter the market but at a later stage. Existing solutions will remain available but will be upgraded to align with customer requirements and modern trends.
