The President of Belarus Mentioned String Transport During a Meeting on the Development of Transport Infrastructure
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko received a report on the development of the national highway network and the formation of transport infrastructure, as reported by the BelTA news agency. One of the topics discussed was the development of transportation between Minsk and its satellite towns. During this discussion, the head of state mentioned string transport.
Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that the negative consequences of urban overpopulation can be observed in neighboring countries:
Traffic jams everywhere, the need to build interchanges and roads on a massive scale. Tell me, is it pleasant to live surrounded by this reinforced concrete jungle, with cars, cars, and more cars all around?
In Belarus, a different approach has been taken. Many years ago, the development of satellite towns around Minsk began, including Dzerzhinsk, Zaslavl, Logoisk, Smolevichi, Fanipol, and the village of Rudensk. While it is relatively easy to reach the capital from these settlements by private car, the President emphasized the need to make this journey even faster.
The head of state underscored the urgency of constructing higher-speed routes that are independent of highways:
"I do not think it will take a lot of time or money. We need to establish not only good roads but also efficient railroads and other forms of communication. I know that string transport is also being developed, and there are already many advancements in the world. Therefore, we should move in this direction, and during the next five-year period, we must address the issues concerning satellite towns, especially those around Minsk."
