uPod maintenance: The battery has been in use for 8 years without any signs of degradation

When designing uPods, great attention is paid to the reliability and durability of all components and assemblies. Therefore, the maintenance of an unmanned rail vehicle usually requires only routine upkeep. Recently, uBus U4-210 underwent seasonal maintenance. Let's see what work was needed for the car, which is nearly 8 years old.

While servicing U4-210, the technicians inspected and adjusted the cooling and heating systems, as well as the system for heating of the energy storage device, and conducted tests of the battery charging and discharging processes. Diagnostics have shown that over the long period of operation of the uBus, the battery has not degraded, maintaining its capacity and holding its charge well. The examination of the braking system revealed that the discs and pads do not require replacement and still have a substantial lifespan. Maxim Mukovozchik, Head of the Transport Complex's Technical Service Department, explained that this is due to the fact that most of the braking power is generated through electrodynamic braking rather than mechanical braking. The vent system was also serviced, the bearings were inspected, the paintwork was refurbished, and the protective coatings were renewed.

“Special attention is given to checking the corrosion resistance. Due to the fiberglass body and the lack of salt on string roads, the frame and body parts are not prone to corrosion. This confirms the reliability of the design, even during long-term operation under adverse conditions,” said Maxim Mukovozchik.

Therefore, the inspection has confirmed that U4-210 is ready to operate in severe weather, ensuring optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and passenger comfort.
