PRODELO Media Published a Report on the U4-220 uBus
The 48-seat U4-220 uBus was in the spotlight of the Belarusian business portal PRODELO. The media reported that today it is one of the most capacious unmanned electric vehicles in Europe. The U4-220 may well become an alternative not only to urban, but also to personal transportation.
The first surprising thing about the interior of the uBus is the large glazing area. It is made of transparent, tinted monolithic polycarbonate 4 mm thick. According to Alexey Vodopetov, Head of the Rolling Stock Department, the polycarbonate sheets are glued directly into the body frame and give it additional rigidity.
The driver is replaced by an automated control system and the situation is additionally monitored by a dispatcher. Compared to a car, the uBus is also equipped with ABS/ASR, collision avoidance, vision and even individual rescue systems. Smooth running is ensured by a special two-stage air suspension.
Unlike a streetcar, the uBus does not need constant electricity as it runs on its own energy storage device, which is sufficient for 200 km of travel. The energy consumption is about 32.5 kWh/100 km. It is worth comparing with Tesla Model X and Model Y, which spend about 23–25 kWh/100 km. At the same time, the Tesla seats 4–5 people, while the U4-220 can accommodate up to 48 passengers.
At the same time, the external noise level of the U4-220 uBus is 75.5 dBA, while the internal noise level ranges from 76 to 78 dBA. For comparison: the difference in noise between subway, streetcar and the uBus is 20 dBA, i.e. inside the uST unmanned rail vehicle is 10 times quieter.
