Nepal stakes on the string transport
The government of Nepal and the representatives of UST Inc. maintain a strong partnership. The implementation of the string transport will revolutionize the way passengers and goods are moved in the mountainous areas of the country. UST Inc. has already commenced the development of a project in Koshi Province.
To gain a deeper understanding of the potential of string transportation, a group from Nepal paid a visit to the uSky Center in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, in early August. The visitors were impressed by the recent innovations in passenger and cargo uPods. The company's flagship vehicle, uBus Karat, a spacious and comfortable vehicle on steel wheels that is suitable for both urban and intercity routes, was of particular interest.
The delegation members acknowledged the great potential of uST technology for Nepal. For a country with difficult terrain and a complicated road network, string overpasses could eliminate traffic jams, reduce harmful emissions, and ensure a high level of safety for citizens and tourists alike.
At the same time, the Nepalese Parliament is paying great attention to the development of innovative transportation solutions, including string transport. As Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli stated in response to a question from members of parliament, funds have already been allocated for exploring the possibility of constructing a new line along the Kathmandu-Hetauda-Kulekhani route, instead of the closed cable car system. A comprehensive feasibility study is planned to be conducted. If the results are positive, the project will be given a boost for its execution.
Local experts note that such systems will significantly contribute to reducing reliance on imported fuel, fostering the growth of the domestic electricity market, reducing emissions, and enhancing Nepal's appeal to investors and tourists.
