FAQs About the Karat Complex: Technical Nuances

UST Inc. continues its series of materials with answers to frequently asked questions about the Karat Transport & Infrastructure Complex. Is the uninterrupted power supply system ready? Where does the uBus maintenance take place? How quiet is the uPod? Find answers to these and other questions in our publication.

Where does the maintenance, dismounting and mounting of the Karat uBus take place?

We built a dead-end section marquee for such events. Scheduled maintenance, repair, testing, development and commissioning of the uST rolling stock will take place there. The structure is equipped with a dead-end unit. It is disassembled, if necessary, by means of an installed crane-beam for mounting the transport on the track structure or dismounting it.

FAQs About the Karat Complex: Technical Nuances

Will there be a current collector to charge the battery?

The Karat complex has a current collector. The necessary components are mounted both in the uPod and on the string rail overpass.

Is the uninterrupted power supply system ready?

Uninterrupted power supply to the Karat complex has been ensured. The flagship uPod has already run the track using electricity from the track structure.

At the moment, the uST complex, including the string rail overpass, the uPod and infrastructure facilities, is equipped with the relevant traction power supply elements.

Has the passenger safety standard been met?

The company has received the ASCE 21-21 standard, which is the only one for the transportation of people in automatic mode. It is applicable to monorail, railway and light rail transportation, as well as the uST complexes. All Karat components were developed with regard to international and local regulatory frameworks.

FAQs About the Karat Complex: Technical Nuances

Compared to the noise of a car, the Karat uBus is not audible at all. What will be the noise figure at a speed of 80 km/h?

As is customary in the world practice, UST Inc. normalizes both internal and external noise. Today, all the results obtained comply with the technical specification and normative documentation of passenger transportation. There is no significant increase in noise when the uBus travels at 80 km/h.

The uBus is equipped with a two-stage pneumatic suspension, which greatly reduces the noise load. Additional noise insulation is provided by a multi-layer noise-absorbing coating applied to the interior of the uBus shell.
