Arkhangelsk Region Authorities Will Study the Potential of uST Technology to Connect the Capital of Pomorie With the Islands
The government of the Arkhangelsk region is interested in employing transport and infrastructure solutions offered by Unitsky String Technologies Inc. One of the possible projects is the construction of a string rail overpass connecting the central part of the Pomorie capital with the island territories. We presented proposal for the implementation of the uST complex to the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region Alexander Tsybulsky.
Representatives of the municipality are interested in a product of UST Inc. that can solve the problem of transport accessibility in remote areas of the region. The company offers solutions in the form of uST complexes that allow unmanned rail electric cars to travel on a special overpass high above the ground or water. The spans between the towers of the track structure can be up to three kilometers long, which makes the track an efficient solution for overcoming water obstacles that separate neighboring islands.
"We now have two test sites in operation, where we are running our transport and testing the track infrastructure. We are heading towards certification. In order for us to be certified by European norms and standards of the Russian Federation, the complexes need to operate for a certain amount of time," noted the General Director of UST Inc. Nadezhda Kosareva during the meeting.
The company director invited the governor to visit the testing and certification center so that he could see for himself the efficiency of uST technology and also told him about the passenger transportation capabilities of the vehicles.
"The string rail overpass is fundamentally different from cable cars. One of the differences is that the transport runs on a steel wheel on a steel rail. We manufacture the motorized wheels ourselves; it is entirely our development. The capacity of the cars can be different: in cases of low passenger traffic, they can be small vehicles with a capacity of 6–8 people. If it is a well-loaded branch line that operates all year round, vehicles with a capacity of up to 24 people can operate on it," explained Nadezhda Kosareva.
The head of the region instructed the relevant departments to study the areas where the project proposed by UST Inc. could be implemented. The cost of its implementation will depend on the customer's requests and the volume of passenger traffic.
"We considered different options, because we have a problem in that the island territories are not connected by bridges with the central part of Arkhangelsk. There are a lot of islands, and a large number of people live there. If in summer this problem is solved by the availability of water transport, then in winter and in the off-season there are always difficulties with passenger transportation. Therefore, the implementation of such a project could be a good social solution to the transportation problem," said Alexander Tsybulsky.
According to the press service of the governor and government of Pomorie, in addition to the creation of the overpass, the head of the region instructed the government of the Arkhangelsk region to analyze the prospects of another project. It is focused on the development of port infrastructure and involves the creation of cargo complexes for the transportation of piece and containerized cargoes on a uST string rail overpass.
